Abstrakt:

Most Indian cities are experiencing rapid urbanization and majority of country’s population is expected to live in cities within the next two decades. The rapid demographic and spatial development in urban India is putting a tremendous pressure on the urban infrastructure services, and especially on urban transport which is lifeline for the economic development of the country. This paper will review the need for public transport in Indian cities, at the pace of its urbanization and urban transport scenario. It will highlight the challenges for development of Mass Rapid Transit Systems (MRTS) in those cities and suggest solutions to face them efficiently.
